Hey Folks,

A lot has happened since our last entry.  We have been extremely busy, especially with this warm weather.  We uncovered the strawberries today.  They look great.  If the weather cooperates, we should have strawberries the last week of April.  We have spent the last several weeks building a new tall tunnel so that we can provide you with great tasting tomatoes as early as we can.  We have finally completed it and it is half full of tomato plants.  We have a total of four tall tunnels.  Three of them are for tomatoes and the fourth one is for peppers.  We hope to finish planting the rest of the tomatoes tomorrow.  A tall tunnel is an unheated greenhouse.  It is naturally heated by the sun and vented by opening the doors and rolling up the sides.  At night we roll the sides down and close the doors to help keep the heat in.  We usually maintain a temperature at night that is ten degrees warmer than outside.  The tomatoes are grown in the soil, in raised beds  covered with red plastic.  The red plastic helps them to ripen sooner.  We hope to have tomatoes by the middle of June.  We have also planted cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, sugar snap peas, and garlic in the field.  We have sweet corn seedlings and string bean seedlings started in the greenhouse waiting to get planted.
